Emergence of SA and competition with Aus & England

  • The South African team emerged to be the third and strong side. 
  • In 1904, they atained the Test status, courtesy performance by the team led by Frank Michelle.
  • There was also an introduction of a separate board in England for Test cricket in 1903. 
  • In 1907, the Proteas team toured England. 
  • South Africa lost the three match series 1-0. 
  • In 1907-08, England toured South Africa and lost 4-1.
  • JN Crawford took 30 wickets. 
  • Due to Sir Abel Bailley, a triangular contest between England, south Africa and Australia was organised. 
  • In 1913-14, MCC toured South Afrcia. Barnes took 49 wickets in a magical performance giving away just 10 runs. 
  • Till that time South Africa, defeated Aussies only once in 1911 at Adelaide.
